Nothing in the world
is as soft and yielding as water.
Yet for dissolving the hard and inflexible,
nothing can surpass it.
The soft overcomes the hard;
the gentle overcomes the rigid.
Therefore the Master remains
serene in the midst of sorrow.
– Tao Te Ching, verse 78. Lao Tzu
This morning meditation teaches us to be flexible, flexible with our likes and dislikes, flexible with our judgments and above all flexible with how we react and act toward others. Accepting what life has in store for us with gratitude without a sense of defeat.
Change is a constant feature in our lives and if we are rigid like a dry tree in the wind we can break. Otherwise, the young bamboo bends in the wind and lives another day after the storm. We can flow with life changes or we can tell ourselves we are defeated and fall into a sense of victimization. The choice is ours. We can embrace change, make it ours and find the positive energy there.
We cannot change the cards we are dealt with in this so called “game of life” but we sure can make the most of those cards by taking charge of our emotions and physical health.
